Job Overview:
The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of costume curation, purchasing, construction, and management for Theatre Raleigh productions. This role requires a detail-oriented, organized individual with strong skills in costume construction, team management, and collaboration with designers, directors, and the production team. The Costume Shop Manager plays a critical role in bringing each production’s visual elements to life, ensuring costumes are of the highest quality and align with each show’s artistic vision. The Costume Shop Manager will also oversee the over hires and manage the budget allotted to each production. Additionally, the Costume Shop Manager is responsible for managing costume rentals to other theater companies, and overseeing groups that use the facility for events, classes, or productions. This includes coordinating rental logistics with Rentals Manager and ensuring that facilities are maintained and prepared for these outside groups.
Hours and location: This is a full time position. Weekend and evening availability is required based on production and event schedules and needs. Working location is across the Theatre Raleigh Arts Center at 6638 Old Wake Forest Road, Raleigh NC.
This position reports to the Production Manager/Technical Director, Artistic Director, and Theatre Raleigh ACT (Youth Theatre) Creative Director

Full Job Requirements
Expectations and Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Productions each year
• TRACT: Spring, Summer & Fall: Full Pre-performance and Performance Company as well as assistance for the Junior and Kids shows
• 2 TR In Concert shows
• TR Main Stage: 5 productions yearly
• TR Second Stage: 2 productions yearly
• Inclusive Arts: 2 productions yearly
• Costume Coordination and Production: Oversee all aspects of costume production, including construction, alterations, fittings, repairs, and maintenance. Ensure costumes are ready for each performance, addressing any last-minute adjustments as needed.
• Collaboration with Designers: Work closely with costume designers to understand the vision for each production, consulting on fabric, trim, and accessories choices, and ensuring designs are executed within the budget and timeline.
• Staff Management: Recruit, train, and manage costume shop personnel, including stitchers, drapers, dressers and volunteers within a given budget. Organize schedules and work assignments to ensure efficient workflow.
• Budgeting & Inventory: Manage and comply with the costume budget for each production, track expenses, and keep detailed records. Oversee inventory, manage costume rentals and returns, and maintain the costume stock.
• Fittings & Alterations: Schedule and conduct costume fittings with cast members, making necessary alterations to ensure proper fit, comfort, and movement for performers.

• Maintenance & Quality Control: Ensure all costumes are maintained in excellent condition, repairing and cleaning items as necessary throughout the run of a show. Oversee costume quick changes and backstage costume organization during performances.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all costume shop activities adhere to safety and hygiene standards, especially regarding materials and workspace organization.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stage management, actors, and the production team to maintain clear lines of communication, addressing any costume-related issues promptly.
• TR Rentals Management: Coordinate costume rentals to other theater companies, handling requests, rental agreements, and logistics. Ensure that costumes are properly maintained, tracked, and returned in good condition.
• Facility Oversight for External Groups: Oversee the use of the facility by outside groups, including rentals for events, classes, or workshops. Ensure that spaces are prepared and coordinate any necessary support for these groups.
• In charge of clearing all the costumes after a production closes, which includes washing, dry cleaning, putting items into inventory, and creating rental packages if that is a possibility for the costumes from a production.
